excerpt from Crossing the Ameri-Con

To bar the courthouse door banning gays & atheists

The unhappy saga began four years ago

When a factory pollutes a town's drinking water

Experts react

To distract the masses and it's working

A post-mortem show of some kind of pulse

Of red-meat rhetoric

War tied into pretzels

An indictment and a potential epitaph

Rats use the magnetic field

At least for long distances as a compass

They enjoy free access to our mailboxes

excerpt from Crossing the Ameri-Con

The Postal Service is reminded

That what it does matters

Particularly in Appalachia

A polyglot code has emerged

Where humans are described as cows

The fodder for many, many post-mortems

Where preferences for slaughter are discussed

Blame it on automation

We just send them to the Santa Claus office

At 30th & Market above the watery void

In effect humans serve as a virus mixing bowl

Everyone can serve

I think we've got to avoid getting fond of a design

excerpt from Crossing the Ameri-Con

You were a stratagem in the fervor of rats

Humming the psalms that sparked the napalm nation

If every generation has a cross covered alibi lying across its losses

A bronzed virgin cockroach mother

Then what for the tributaries and consanguinities that bind us

My bloodied Mother howls back at her tormentors

Peak Oil came did you see it?

The stratosphere skin that once kept the starlight safe

Now bleeds sunlight while glaciers crowd the water

There was a place for love in this life just where now does it get shepherded

Between the Sunday crossword puzzle and the homophobic advice columnist

There is too little room left for light in the bright white heat

excerpt from Crossing the Ameri-Con

Fill your hand with the future of pistols, today

Like global positioning devices

To help fleets towards their cabs

Defined in terms

Designed or marketed as useful

For the stimulation of human genital organs

You might also call the capacity

To turn a cow into fabric softener

A kind of industrial farming

To compete with the Chinas of the world

It's not a deal where everyone gains instantly

The President will visit a black church or two

Women of childbearing age

Would be wise to limit their intake

Of farm-raised salmon and cancer

Still, being Martha Stewart has certain advantages

Lacking both air and magnetic field
